A Family Day Trip

Pack your picnic blanket and enjoy zoo adventures, mini golf and more with a family day out in Werribee and Surrounds – just 30 minutes from Melbourne.

Need to head home for nap time?

Break up the itinerary into smaller morning or afternoon adventures – they work just as well mid-week as they do on the weekend.

MORNING

Go on safari at Werribee Open Range Zoo
Get an early start to enjoy the expanse of Werribee Open Range Zoo, including its iconic Safari Bus Tour (included in entry), Keeper Talks and trails. The Safari Bus Tour and Keeper Talks are a hit with any age and there are all kinds of delightful play spaces with littlies in mind; from safari jeeps and monkey rope courses, to sand play and dress up fun play inside Ranger Kids. Zoo bookings Recommended.

Stop for a coffee or a hot chocolate at the Zoo’s Meerkat Bistro and watch the busy meerkats through the huge glass windows.

LUNCH

Relax over a family friendly lunch or picnic
Sit down and relax in the family-friendly Wyndham Cache – a relaxed, family-run café and restaurant with farm-fresh produce, generous meals and plenty of space for prams. You can also pre-order grazing hampers to pick up and in enjoy in the grounds of Werribee Park Mansion.

3030 Boulevard at Wyndham Harbour is another great option close to the Zoo, offering relaxed outdoor seating with views of Port Phillip Bay, woodfired pizzas and a dedicated kids’ menu.

For more options head to Watton Street, just a short drive away in Werribee City Centre for family-friendly cafés, restaurants, pubs and yes – nuggets and chips (if that’s where the kids at are at today!)

AFTERNOON

Werribee Park Mansion and mini-golf fun
Enjoy the rolling green lawns and gardens and tour through Werribee Park Mansion’s beautifully restored interiors. With its dress-ups and old-fashioned toys, the Mansion nursery is always a hit along with the balcony area, where kids will feel like they’re looking out from their very own ‘castle’! Entry to the grounds is free, with a small fee for Mansion entry.

If time allows, stroll through to the Victoria State Rose Garden – a must-see in the spring and summer months.

Continue your journey through Werribee South to enjoy the sea views, playground and mini golf fun at The Elements Coastal Activity Park in Wyndham Harbour.

If energy levels are flagging, you might like to start with an ice cream or snack, before teeing off at this relaxed, nature-based 18-hole course, overlooking Port Phillip Bay. If you’re lucky you may even spot a pod of dolphins!
