Visit Serendip Sanctuary to see emus, wallabies, kangaroos and a huge variety of birdlife in their natural habitat. You may be treated to Cape Barren Geese honking, Whistling Kites soaring overhead, Yellow-billed Spoonbills wading through shallow water, or even a glimpse of the well-hidden Tawny Frogmouth.
Located on the outskirts of Lara, Serendip Sanctuary is free to visit and a great place to view wildlife and enjoy open grassy woodlands and wetlands of the volcanic Western Plains.
Stop by the newly opened Sensory Garden. The garden for the senses is an accessible place for everyone to enjoy being out in nature. Follow your senses through the five sensory spaces. Each space encourages a calm, inclusive and meaningful connection to nature. Rest stops are provided along this gentle 300-metre loop, and the pathway is suitable for wheelchairs, prams and walking aids.
Take the Wildlife Walk to meander past emus and kangaroos grazing, to viewing areas and bird hides perfect for spying some of the 150 bird species that breed at, or visit, Serendip Sanctuary.
During school holidays there are a range of free and fun Junior Ranger activities for families to explore the sanctuary alongside a park ranger.
Relax at the picnic area near the main carpark. Facilities include free electric barbecues, a picnic shelter, drinking water and toilets.
