Outdoor Adventures

The immaculate, expansive gardens of Werribee Park & Mansion are the number one spot for visitors to the region and make for a beautiful place to spend the day.

However, if you look a little further you will find a treasure trove of outdoor adventures waiting to be discovered.

MORNING

Werribee Open Range Zoo
Kick off your day by joining the zookeepers at Werribee Open Range Zoo on an Early Morning Savannah experience to discover what goes on at the zoo before the crowds arrive. You could help keepers prepare food or view a training session; every day is different behind the scenes. Experiences must be pre-booked.

Time: allow at least 3-4 hours.

LUNCH

Werribee Park
Pre-book a picnic from The Refectory Parlour or Lancemore Mansion Hotel to enjoy in the grounds of Werribee Park, or lunch by the vines at the beautiful Shadowfax Winery (bookings recommended).

AFTERNOON

Werribee Park Golf Course, Victoria State Rose Garden, K Road Cliffs
Grab the clubs and hit the greens of the championship length Werribee Park Golf Course. Designed with well-placed bunkers and lateral water hazards this course aims to test the skills of every budding golf pro. With views of the Werribee River, the picturesque scenery may help to ease the pain if you find yourself in the rough one too many times.

Alternatively, explore the stunning Victoria State Rose Garden and take a short drive to see the K Road Cliffs, with views right across to the You Yangs.

DINNER

Werribee City Centre
Enjoy a pre-dinner tipple at Corked Wine Bar and then make the most of the warmer weather with outdoor dining options at Bridge Hotel, Teddy Picker, The Park Werribee or Wolf on Watton. Save room for dessert with an evening stroll past Augustus Gelatery.

STAY

Werribee City Centre
Enjoy the central location of Quest Werribee or be among the first guests to stay at the Holiday Inn Werribee, the region’s newest accommodation offering. Both guarantee a comfortable and memorable stay.

Looking for a more indulgent option? Look no further than the Lancemore Mansion Hotel Werribee Park located alongside the Western region’s crown jewel – The Werribee Mansion & Park.

BREAKFAST

Werribee City Centre
You’re spoiled for choice on Watton Street with great coffee and brunch options including Black Seed Café, The South Corner, Notorious Espresso and Chatterbox Café.

Grab your coffee to go and take time to explore Wyndham Park, a green oasis located in the heart of the city.

MORNING

Werribee South Foreshore
Follow the salty sea breeze down to Werribee South Foreshore where you can cast a line in from the beach to see if anything is biting, launch your boat or kayak or walk along the beach.

From here, those with a kayak or stand up paddle board can enter the mouth of Werribee River and paddle upstream along the river, or head out into the open water east towards Wyndham Harbour and Point Cook, or west towards Point Wilson before journeying back to the bay.

From Werribee South Foreshore you can enjoy a great beachside walk to Wyndham Harbour.

LUNCH

Wyndham Harbour
Take time to explore Wyndham Harbour and grab an ice cream from Ramae’s Cafe Lounge or fish and chips from Sam’s Catch – Fish n Chippery to enjoy on the lawn.

On weekends enjoy a lazy lunch and uninterrupted sea views at 3030 Boulevard, before your return walk to Werribee South Foreshore.

AFTERNOON

Birdwatching
The wetlands in the region are renowned as birdwatching havens, attracting thousands of migratory birds from as far as Siberia, Japan and Alaska each year.

Located in the Point Cook Coastal Park, the Cheetham Wetlands include numerous ponds and lakes that attract a broad variety of birds. Uninterrupted views can be accessed from a purpose-built viewing platform, ‘The Tower’, located at the southern end of the wetlands - ideal for watching our feathered friends.

Point Cooke Marine Sanctuary
Continue further around the bay and discover the hidden gem that is the Point Cooke Marine Sanctuary, Victoria’s largest marine park, which can be explored both above and below the water.

Keen divers can take the plunge at Point Cook Beach, located within the sanctuary, and uncover a world below the surface abundant with prickly sea urchins and anemones where small sharks patrol the reefs and muddy seafloor.

For those who prefer to stay on dry land, the narrow sandy beaches, rocky reefs and mud flats play host to a huge array of marine life. Make sure you keep your eyes on the horizon and see if you can spot the pod of bottlenose dolphins that are frequent visitors to the sanctuary.
